It may sound crazy but it's true.

Grants are free money.

However, you have to have money to make money.  Most Canadian grants funding program are structured so you have skin in the game. This means, you must contribute a % of the grant to get the free money. In some cases grants may be 100% funded but they require you have the cash flow to pay upfront. Once the activity is completed you submit your invoices to reimbursed. You need to demonstrate in an application you have the funds to cover the expenses upfront.

 Also note most grants are not quick money. 

 Expect a 6-8 week process to get reimbursed. Right now the government funding pools are being tapped to the limits.  It simply means it make take longer than normal to get reimbursed.
