Small Business Mind Set After Covid

Small Business Recovery Mind Set

The focus in our business world now needs to be on what we can control. Now what we can't. A shift in what we do now vs what we did before. This is where opportunity lies.

Stop spending your time on media and focus on your next phase of growth. The language you use about your future matters. As a small business it can be hard to take given the challenges we all face. However, the ones who want to win will be focused on what to do next. The winners are thinking about where the opportunity will surface next.

Adapt & Think Agility

Today more than ever, we need to shift what we are doing and how we are doing business. When you think about this covid crisis, what are you paying attention to? My focus is on who got it right in solving this crisis, evaluate their practices, and what can we learn from this experience as a SME in the supply chain.

Why does this matter?

It matters because when opportunities start to open up, it will be these bounce back countries who drive revenue first. Understanding what the business flow looks like is to your advantage. If you are not paying attention the wave of opportunity will pass you by.

Planning Ahead

We need to shift to what our plans to what will be in 90 days. What services can we provide? who are we going to target? what do we build to be ready? Where are the opportunities opening up? What grants can help us? Who can we align with to make business happen faster?

As I am a funnel in the grant space for aligning resources to kickstart business growth, I have the pulse of what you need to do to plan for resources coming forward. I have proactive firms lining up to get started so when the gates of opportunity open, they are going to be front runners. Key areas for grants are: research and development, hiring and wage subsidy, training, market research, legal support for international business, and building new business internationally.

Understanding the future of funding and resources is important to your planning for the future. Funding is going to focus on sector innovation, technology, access to online health, education, and other mobile resources. Businesses that align with green energy solutions, agri-innovation, food production, water and land sustainability, tech advanced manufacturing, and anything that is building sustainability is valuable.

I am connected and get the privilege of working with leading edge innovators in a variety of industries in Canada and what I have noticed is they think differently than most. They are tackling innovation by moving the needle most think is unmovable. If we can all start rebuilding by leveraging this mind set, what an edge Canadian business can have on the global economy.

Jump Forward and Plan

Time is of the essence. Start creating for Plan B. In every challenge there is opportunity. Be ahead of the game by investing your time at home planning for what you can be part of when the world of opportunity opens up again.
